Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Town of Brighton public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Buckland Creek blockage and private drive services
Resident Steve Miller asked the town to remove a large tree fallen across Buckland Creek behind his Elmwood Avenue property before it causes flooding, and to reconsider the private-drive designation that denies his four-house street debris pickup. The board agreed to investigate both.
Library Air Quality Monitoring Project
The town partnered with the University of Rochester to install a research air quality monitor on the Brighton Memorial Library roof.
Community Climate Action Fund Grant Application
Conservation Board Chair Karen Berger highlighted volunteer efforts, the new Buckland Park tree nursery raising 350 trees, and the successful pollinator pathway native plant sale. The board praised the volunteers for expanding the town's urban canopy.
Environmental Hazard
Brighton locals are stressing out because lead paint chips from the overhead subway tracks are raining down on their cars and local businesses. It's a major health hazard that the city needs to clean up ASAP.
